After carefully engaging the community, and considering the concerns raised by our State Representative Linda Chaney, the Commission unanimously directed the city to lower the property tax rate.

Representative Chaney pointed out the climate in Tallahassee would be hostile toward cities raising property taxes as the legislature has worked hard this year to bring a homestead property tax reduction to the voters in the November polls. Her ability to help our city with appropriations would be negated. (Before her tax discussion, she presented the city with yet another check for infrastructure, this time $3.5 Million, which is more that our highest tax rate would have added!)

So, with her latest appropriation, our infrastructure plans for 2027 seem secure and should require less supplementation from the General Fund.
