Common Use is the First Step

Many are providing feedback regarding my proposed beach ordinance rules. For those of you concerned about tomorrow’s commission meeting, here are my intentions:

1. I don’t want to vote on anything that might infringe upon the customary, traditional use of the beach.

2. I would approve “no signs within 50’ of the water” for safety reasons.

3. I would approve “all signs must be removed at sunset” for safety reasons (except approved safety signage)

4. Because of #3, “permanent signs are prohibited on st pete beach” 

5. And also, “all beach signs must be approved by the city of st pete beach”

Later in July, our city attorney will brief the commission on the “common use” of St Pete Beach. Of course I’ll be soliciting everyone’s feedback. Then, we can consider where our beach rules might need attention.
