Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Next week, I’ll do neighborhood visits Tuesday afternoon instead of Monday.

The Commission meeting next week will be on Wednesday. Our special guest will be State Representative Linda Chaney to present on Millage Rate Decisions relative to the political climate in Tallahassee, and how our decision will likely impact her ability to help our city with appropriations. Spoiler: since our representatives have worked so hard this year to bring a tax cut propsal to our statewide ballots in November, the idea that some cities may turn around and raise tax rates will not be well received. We will carefully listen to our representative. She has been able to bring millions to our city, much more than the millage rate increase we have been considering.

I suppose the big news is that the TAX ROADSHOW results are in and may be viewed from the button on the Newsletter page. I’ll let everyone digest these results before I offer any comments. EMAIL ME your thoughts, or come to your neighborhood meeting Tuesday to discuss in person.

Given all the above info, the Commission will vote on the millage rate Wednesday.

This week I met with Tradewinds ownership to discuss beach use rules during turtle season. They intend to comply with our turtle tracker requests regarding both nests and stacking chairs if nesting ACTIVITY is reported on a PORTION of their property. (See the Newletter page for a copy of the cabana ordinance wording regarding cabana stacking.) My interpretation of the ordinance is that where activity is observed, the cabanas must be stacked (the “portion” of the beach).
