WSP Engineers Present Stormwater Design Options This Month

Our engineering contractor, WSP, will present concepts this month based upon what they currently do in other Florida cities. (This week they conducted soil sample analysis in the Lazarillo Park).

We expect a big picture, followed by a practical, logical, yearly plan that shows how we can transform District 3 drainage during the next ten years.

Progress depends upon sequencing based upon experience and logic, community support, and funding — exactly why we have hired WSP to guide the process and to provide the initial design in 2026. This is not a study. Construction begins in 2027. This is why 2027 construction funding must be budgeted now.

We have heard some outrageously large numbers which may include impractical, illogical processes. I believe our most desired solution will simply prevent monthly high tide salt water and remove daily rain water from our streets. Our cost will be far less when separated out of the general concept of “resiliency” and presented as specific outcomes.

It’s important to remember that District 3 neighborhoods needing stormwater infrastructure include the Don CeSar, Belle Vista, Lido, and Boca Ciega Isle.
